Posting on Google Business Profile Yes or No?
The short answer in our opinion is …. maybe. There is a lot of advice I see to use posting sources for local SEO but I find that for most businesses it's just more of a headache than it's worth. The post section on mobile takes extra steps just to find which is why I don’t think most people even see the posts anyway. Plus Google is always removing features. Case in point, does anyone even remember Google+?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is really complicated and changes over time. There are so many different things that impact search ranking. I like to think of it as a point system just to make it a little bit easier to explain. For example the meta title tag on your website is worth, let’s say, 150 points and posting on your Google Business Profile is well… 1 point. The more points you have compared to the competition theoretically the higher you are likely to rank. Basically Google Business Profile posting is low in the list of ranking factors and may not be worth the effort for just one single point when you can do something else to get 50 targeted points.
Beware of Google BUGS!
One of the reasons that I recommend against people really messing too much with their Google Business Profile without being super careful is the bugs. Multiple times we've run into issues where Google has accidentally deleted information or changed our information, especially when it comes to new features that Google rolls out. You can run into all kinds of weird problems that end up getting your page suspended or possibly spending hours trying to fix the problem. In other words, if you are making changes keep a watchful constant eye on your Google Business Profile. Additionally, staying informed about updates and potential issues in online forums or Google's announcements can help you anticipate and mitigate problems.
Avoid Getting Suspended
The last thing you want is for your page to get suspended forcing you to contact Google's almost nonexistent backlogged customer service. If your GBP page is verified, up to date and especially if your ranking alright then refrain from touching it. Always make sure your website has been updated before you update the information on your Google Business Profile, especially your phone number and address. One of the perks of our Management Service clients can depend on us helping straighten out issues if their page gets suspended which can sometimes take weeks to get fixed.
Why Post on Your My Google Business Profile?
The One SEO Point
Now I know what you're thinking after reading this far but sometimes you really do just need one more point to boost your SEO results. Posting can be a way to show activity on your Google Business Profile. It may not be a direct ranking factor, but it can influence what happens around the rankings. If two businesses are using the same SEO strategies and are basically equal in ranking, the one that’s more active or is getting more interactions usually ends up with better visibility.
Do It For The Local SEO
For local businesses that are targeting a local area it can be worth it. Google Business Profile (GBP) posts are highly effective for any business that relies on local visibility, customer foot traffic, or immediate bookings. Google Business Profile (GBP) rankings are determined by three primary factors: a. how well you match a search, b. how close you are to the searcher, and c. how well-known your business is. Adding posts can help boost your GBP listings ranking in your local area. Local businesses that have been operating for a while may not have websites. But they have authority, in that there have been interactions with their GBP for an extended period of time.
Posting Quality Over Quantity Matters
A lot of the content that you make for social media like Facebook just doesn't fit what it should be used for. It should mostly be used to post business updates, offers and sales, and events.
If you have the quality content relative to your industry/topic to post daily, then it won't hurt to do so. Posting daily content simply for the sake of posting quantity will actually dilute your quality content in the long term and just hurt rankings. Posting once a week or month is more than enough for most businesses, especially if the content is actually useful. Google won’t rank you higher just because you posted today, but those interactions and signals do play a role in the overall picture.
